Alex Sampson may still be early in his career, but if his recent sold-out tour dates and growing fan base are any indication, he won’t be playing intimate venues for much longer.

The Canadian singer-songwriter stopped by Summerfest on June 26th where he opened for Louis Tomlinson, who rose to global fame during his time with One Direction. I had the chance to chat with Alex Sampson about life on the road, his 2024 experience on America’s Got Talent and the ambitious goals he has set for the future.

Despite touring extensively, this year’s appearance marked Sampson’s first visit to Summerfest.  Before arriving in Milwaukee, he’d already heard about one Wisconsin tradition that fans insisted he couldn’t miss: sampling cheese curds!  Laughing, Sampson admitted he’d heard plenty about the state’s famous snack and was looking forward to experiencing one of America’s largest music festivals for himself.

Sampson has had the pleasure of playing at many historic venues, but there are definitely a few that are still on his “goal” list. After selling out Denver’s historic Bluebird Theater, on March 3, 2026 Sampson said the city left a lasting impression. He mentioned that he loved Denver and that it would be an absolute dream to come back and play at the infamous and iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

One of Sampson’s favorite venues thus far was Los Angeles’ famed Roxy Theatre. He also hopes one day to take the stage at the iconic Hollywood Bowl, one of the world’s most recognizable outdoor concert venues.

As his audience continues to grow, Sampson is looking forward to joining fellow rising pop artist Freya Skye on tour, introducing his music to new fans across the country.

Anyone who has attended an Alex Sampson concert knows the show extends well beyond the songs.  His performances have developed a reputation for creating memorable fan moments. While he does not perform acrobatic flips during his concerts, he does engage in light-hearted bottle-flip competitions, laugh with his band, engage in conversations with audience members, and take selfies with the crowd. During one of his concerts a fan proposed to his girlfriend and Sampson stopped the show to congratulate the newly engaged couple, took a photo and gave them the moment they deserved. It’s these unscripted interactions that have helped cultivate an especially loyal fan community.

Long before headlining his own tour, Sampson was introduced to millions of viewers through America’s Got Talent. Looking back, he speaks about the experience with genuine gratitude and appreciation.  He made a point of telling me how kind everyone was throughout that experience.  Rather than defining his career, the television competition became a launching point that helped introduce new listeners to his music while opening doors for future opportunities.

Like many young artists today, Sampson understands that success involves much more than writing songs and performing live. The impact of social media extends well beyond the music industry, playing a role in all aspects of life. It’s a reality that today’s artists navigate daily, balancing music creation with content creation while staying connected with fans around the world.

Watching Alex Sampson perform, it’s clear that his greatest strength isn’t just his vocal range, it’s his ability to make everyone in the audience feel like part of the show.

Whether he’s delivering one of his heartfelt ballads, laughing with fans between songs, or sharing stories from life on the road, Sampson creates an atmosphere that feels genuine and inviting. That authenticity, combined with his smooth vocals and growing catalog of original music, continues to attract new listeners wherever he performs.

With sold-out shows already under his belt, major touring opportunities ahead, and dreams of one day performing at Red Rocks and the Hollywood Bowl, Alex Sampson is building momentum one performance at a time.

If his Summerfest appearance is any indication, he’s an artist whose biggest stages are still ahead.
