Peter Frampton gave everyone some sweet, (and bittersweet), memories as he performed his final show at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado on Wednesday night. The Peter Frampton Finale-The Farewell Tour sold out the venue on a rainy summer night. Baby (Somethin’s Happening) was Frampton’s first song. Something most definitely was happening. Frampton was thanking life-time fans and friends along with first-timers who bought the tickets to see this legend on his final tour.
The second song in was Lying, and I don’t think Frampton is lying about this being his final tour. The 69 year old musician joined his first band at age 12, and has been cruising ever since. Frampton and the crowd had raindrops falling on their faces as he sang Lines On My Face. Not dampened by the weather, listeners sang along to songs that included Show Me The Way which was the fourth song, and then he went to The Lodger. No one had a bigger smile than Peter Frampton himself. He seemed to be having a great time smelling the Colorado air and magically including the “talk box” as he performed.
And the hits just kept on coming as he covered Georgia (On My Mind), and Blues songs mixed in Me And My Guitar, and Same Old Blues. Frampton shined as he sang Breaking All The Rules.
Frampton also impressed the crowd with Black Hole Sun (video courtesy of Alec Siwek), a tribute to his friend Chris Cornell, which propelled the momentum of the next songs (I’ll Give You) Money, Baby I Love Your Way, before releasing Do You Feel Like We Do to the fired up crowd witnessing history right in front of their eyes and ears. While Frampton performed the encore with While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I couldn’t tell if it was starting to rain again, or if it was just the fans gently weeping into the night.
Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience started the show with recognizable Classic Rock sounds starting the show with Immigrant Song. They kept their set short, as their start was delayed by lightning strikes and a downpour, but also played songs that included Good Times Bad Times, Over the Hills and Far Away, and got the crowd jamming with Whole Lotta Love.
