Hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, newly-crowned Juno-Award-Winner for Best Blues Album, Colin James played Soiled Dove Underground in Denver on Saturday night as a stop on his Open Road Tour. With a rich history of 30+ years on stage and 20 studio albums, James kept the joint hopping with tunes such as Boogie Funk, Man’s Gotta Be a Stone, Why’d You Lie, Oh Well, Soul of a Man, Just Came Back, Into the Mystic, and songs from his current release, Open Road, included As The Crow Flies, What You’re Doing To Me, Open Road, That’s Why I’m Crying, There’s a Fire, Change It, and Raging River. Find the setlist in the photos below.
James fully entertained the attentive audience with stories and songs and mentioned some of the iconic Blues greats like Albert King, Morgan Davis, Otis Rush, Blind Willie Johnson, and told a tale of when Stevie Ray Vaughan inspired him to write his song Speechless, which he performed. James was appreciative of the enthralled listeners and intimate venue and went out into the crowd with his guitar a couple of times to get up-close and personal with fans.
On stage supporting James were Geoff Hicks on drums, Steve Marriner on bass and harmonica (often at the same time), and Anders Drerup on guitar.
