Bouncing back and forth from coast to coast The Hip Abduction has been on tour since the beginning of summer performing their “We’ll Be Alright Tour”. Only traveling to six different states during the entire tour, they came to an end with their final four shows being here in Colorado. Starting in Buena Vista, followed Denver’s show two days later (current review), then worked their way over to New Castle right outside of Glenwood Springs prior to their final show in Del Norte, Co.
The night started with a funky reggae pop band from Charlotte, North Carolina named Of Good Nature. A group of four individuals, built over some time, came together to preach their hearts and soul through their instruments. They definitely have a southern jazz sound to them that I absolutely loved.
Headlining on Vocals was Cam Brown, David Hamilton Jr. on the Drums (founding member), Brandon Hucks on Trombone, and newest member Clifton Bundick on the Bass. Introducing themselves to the newcomers they played a total of ten songs starting with Feels Right, then Bother Me, Now I Know, Don’t Wanna Give Up, and Open Your Mind. At which point Dave Johnson from The Hip Abduction stepped out to play with them for a bit Good Life, Save the World, Airplane, and Light Up.
With only two acts on the card, it was time for The Hip Abduction to hit the stage. This groovy Indie band stars David New as Lead Vocals/Guitar, Chris Powers on the Bass, Dave Johnson on the Bariton/Sax, Justino Lee Walker on Guitar/Vocals, and Matt Poster on the drums. With the Bluebird being one of Denver’s smaller main auditoriums, the place was still packed from wall to wall leaving just enough room to boogie.
They walked out in dim blue lighting as Johnson and Poster introduced the temp that was carried throughout the remainder of the show. Songs in the order of the setlist to the best of our note-taking ability while also jamming out with the show, starting with Holiday from the 2013 album release “The Hip Abduction”. The Daydreamer, Garden, Live It Right, Before, Come Alive, Sun King, Thunder, and Drifting, missed a few tracks…AWA, Float, PCH, and All I Need, before fans applauded and chanted them off stage, they ended their set with fan favorite cover of Snow.
Touring since April, the band plans on taking a bit of time to themselves and loved ones prior to planning their next tour with all new exciting tracks that they’ve already started to work on during this tour.
