If you want to learn a bunch of Robert Earl Keen songs, just attend one of his shows at The Grizzly Rose and he and 2,000 of his closest friends will teach them to you. Keen hosted the sing-a-long-to-the-hits session at the sold-out venue on Friday night.
Prolific songwriter out of Houston, TX, Robert Earl Keen returned to Denver and had his fans Feelin’ Good Again, with many memorable songs that included Ride, Gringo Honeymoon, Corpus Christi Bay, and The Road Goes On Forever. Find the full setlist in the photos below.
Supporting REK on stage was Bill Whitbeck on bass, Tom Van Schaik on drums, and Brian Beken on guitar and fiddle.
Keen saved The Front Porch Song for the closing encore. A final farewell? We’ll see. Keen says he’s hanging up the tour bus keys later this year. The road may not go on forever for Keen, but his songs will never end. Visit robertearlkeen.com for more information.
Jeff Crosby, out of Idaho, impressed listeners with his Folk Rock, and Americana offerings with songs such as Best $25 I Ever Spent, Runnin’ Free, Break My Heart, Mother’s God, Hold This Town Together, The Garden, Still Be Around, and City of Roses. Crosby, on guitar, harmonica, and vocals, was supported by Ben Waligoske on guitar, pedal steel, and vocals. Crosby filled the historic venue with a Country flavor with a Bluesy feel. Zach Neil, performing first and warming up the early arrivers, had a little something for everyone; Cowboy music, Honky Tonk music, Texas Country, and 90’s Country. Supporting Neil on stage were Cliff Canterbury on bass, Conway Turley on guitar and steel guitar, David Mahurin on drums, and Merna Lewis on fiddle.
Neil and his band were having Too Much Fun, but what’s that mean? Blasting out covers such as Cadillac Cowboy, Holdin’ Heaven, and Long Haired Country Boy, and sharing original tunes like Horses To Ride, When She Drinks Whiskey, and Half Bad. Neil captured listeners’ attention with his deep voice, country attitude, and cowboy spirit. Check out a video of his new song that he played too, Long Live The Cowboy.
