PRAISE FOR POLLINATOR:
“[‘Fun’ is] a disco-heavy new wave track that recalls the Blondie of yesteryear.” – NPR
“Sonically, [‘Long Time’ is] sprinkled with the sparkle of ‘Heart of Glass’ in the intro bars, not to mention a dash of The Strokes in the pre-chorus, and of course, because this is Blondie, the hook is gloriously anthemic.”- Noisey
“…all the hallmarks of an earnest pop record and yet all the disco-drizzled grit that makes it sound like it was hand-delivered from a ’80s studio suit.” – Consequence of Sound
“Star-studded…” – SPIN
“Pollinator is fun, imaginative and quintessentially Blondie – it’s punk’s “good old days” retooled for a wretched century.” – Paste
Today, Blondie have released their remarkable new album Pollinator via BMG. Having already received early acclaim for its dynamic blend of Blondie‘s trailblazing sound and new influences from some of modern music’s greatest innovators, Pollinator arrives in full force as a perfect addition to the band’s celebrated catalog. In support of the album, Blondie will perform on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday, May 9th at 11:35pm/10:35pm CT on NBC. Pollinator is available now – PRESS HERE to order. The album is available in special packages and bundles on Blondie’s store including heavy weight vinyl and a limited edition 7″ box set. World-renowned artist Shepard Fairey designed the album artwork.
Pollinator features the euphoric disco-infused single “Fun” (PRESS HERE) as well as the propulsive 80s-esque anthem “Long Time,” a collaboration with Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes (PRESS HERE). Videos for both singles were directed by Dikayl Rimmasch, who also worked with Beyonce on her Lemonade album videos and on her Formation World Tour. Beginning July 5th, audiences will have the chance to hear Blondie‘s new songs and biggest hits live during the band’s thrilling live show on their North American co-headlining Rage and Rapture Tour with Garbage kicking off in Saratoga, CA.
Produced by GRAMMY® Award-winner John Congleton (Franz Ferdinand, St.Vincent, Sigur Ros) and recorded at NYC’s famed studio The Magic Shop, Pollinator is Blondie’s most collaborative album to date. For their 11th studio LP, Blondie enlisted an eclectic group of songwriters who have offered their own interpretation of their legacy back to the very band that helped to shape their own musical DNA. TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek returns Blondie to a 21st Century Studio 54 on “Fun.” Blood Orange front man Dev Hynes penned “Long Time,” a song about “racing down the Bowery” and wondering if life turned out the way you wanted it to. The Sia-penned track “Best Day Ever,” a collaboration with The Strokes’ Nick Valensi, ponders the push-pull of bittersweet memories. The Charli XCX tune “Gravity” bonds Charli and Debbie in their mutual pop-punk cheekiness. “My Monster” comes courtesy of The Smiths’ Johnny Marr. “Fragments,” the contribution from Adam Johnston aka an Unkindess, was first heard as a sample on the Canadian indie artist’s YouTube movie reviews.
