When you were organizing your CD collection in the 90s, did you put Sawyer Brown under S or B? Out of Nashville, Sawyer Brown brought the party to Denver’s World Famous Grizzly Rose on Friday night. Sawyer Brown, led by energetic frontman, lead vocalist, and dancer extraordinaire Mark Miller, has been influencing country music since 1981, when they formed in Apopka, FL, after being Don King’s road band. In 1983, Sawyer Brown gained momentum by winning the grand prize on the reality TV show Star Search. Sawyer Brown went on to release 19 studio albums, chart 50 singles, and have 3 number one hits: Step That Step, Some Girls Do, and Thank God For You. 41 years worth.
Starting with Boys and Me, Mark Miller led Gregg “Hobie” Hubbard on keys, Joe Smyth on drums, and Shayne Hill on guitar, through the high-energy hits like The Boys and Me, This Time, (This Thing Called) Wanting and Having it All, Hard to Say, and Some Girls Do, as well as the slower ballads that included Cafe on the Corner, The Walk, and All These Years, among others. Sawyer Brown was supported by Nathan on bass and Joe Erkman on mandolin and rhythm guitar.
Miller spoke about the Denver Broncos and how special it was to have his son at the show. He also mentioned Get Me to the Stage on Time, his book, The Boys and Me: My Life in the Country Music Supergroup Sawyer Brown, and their newest release, Desperado Troubadours, backed by Blake Shelton.
