Kicking off Dazzle’s 2024, week-long, Artist Residency series is trombonist Mark Patterson as he returns to Dazzle on January 20-23, 2024, followed by pianist Dave Hanson, February 18 – 21, 2024.

Mark Patterson’s early teachers in Evergreen, CO, included his father, trombonist and bassist Dick Patterson, whose associates Spike Robinson and Dale Bruning adopted Mark as an apprentice of sorts. He graduated from the University of Denver, then sharpened his pencils in New York with Bob Brookmeyer, Manny Albam, and Jim McNeely in the BMI Jazz Composers’ Workshop. Mark carefully curated established and emerging local artists to combine sounds and rhythms that blend seamlessly with the trombone.

Duets & More!
Tuesday, January 23 – 6:30PM
“I am very excited to continue the Dale Bruning series at Dazzle, with a very special twist:
saxophonist Scott Robinson will join Dale, Mark Simon, and me in a program of ‘Duets Plus.’ Dale was my teacher and mentor and I can’t wait to hear his deep melodic perspective with Scott, whose expressive palate is so wide, and Mark, whose playing combines so seamlessly with Dale. Scott, flying in from New York, plays every woodwind and brass instrument I can think of (known for bari with Maria Schneider), and this time it will be mostly tenor sax (the focus of his recent recording, “Tenormore”).” ~Mark Patterson
