The Grizzly Rose held their New Year’s Eve Bash, mixing the all-ages Sunday night crew with the NYE partiers. Featuring Denver’s own Rhett Haney, the festive night had a little something for everyone, playing five high-energy sets. Haney had support from Brett Walston on lead guitar and backing vocals, Zee on fiddle, guitar, and backing vocals, and Matt Feldman on drums as they powered through their mix of country and rock.

Haney and his band started the show with 1,2 Many and kept the music flowing with songs such as Good Ol’ Boys, There Was This Girl, Don’t Rock the Jukebox, A Little More Country Than That, Here For a Good Time. Taking a break from the solid country tunes, Haney hit the party crowd with The Cars’ Just What I Needed, and went right back to classic country sounds with George Strait’s Cowboy’s Like Us before throwing it back with Merle Haggard’s Big City. Tossing in 90s country favorites Livin’ On Love, and I Like It I Love It, the listeners wanted some more of it. Haney ended the first set with The Fireman.

The second set had Haney and crew making sure the listeners were in a drinking mood with Must Be the Whiskey, and more country anthems with How ‘Bout You, and You Should Probably Leave before gracing the throng with his own tune, That Makes Two of Us.

Haney, who has been spending time recording in Nashville, took total control of the stage and historic venue and showed ’em who’s the boss with Who’s Your Daddy, before sliding into the 80s with John Cougar’s Hurts So Good. Haney went back to festive spirits with Drinking Problem, and How Country Feels before slowing things down with I Can Still Make Cheyenne and Tougher Than the Rest, before Freight Train ended the second set.

Haney continued the party with songs such as Copperhead Road, Driving My Life Away, Honky Tonk Hardwood Floors, Eight Second Ride, and Devil Went Down to Georgia, as the clock ticked closer to the midnight balloon drop.

Haney flipped the switch at the just right time for the countdown to the New Year as their fourth set ended just as the new year began. Set five included songs such as Should’ve Been a Cowboy, Mr. Lonely, Sharp Dressed Man, Drunk Last Night, Lot o’ Leaving, All My Exes, Jolene, and Friends in Low Places.

Good music. Good times. Goodbye, 2023.
