Denver housed an evening of Dead inspired psychadelic, rhythmic, and funky flavor Thursday, June 8.

The Ogden hosted an evening of funky psychedelic groove with Neal Casal, Adam MacDougall, Dan Horne and Mark Levy, better known as Circles Around the Sun. The packed house was met with arms raised and body swaying interludes of atmosphere transforming, encompassing and possessive tracks. The band’s genesis was the product of the commissioned quartet led by Casal, by the filmmaker son of Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann. Originally intended to accompany the biographical visuals the be shown during set breaks at the “Fare Thee Well” concerts played in 2015.

Denver marks the third show for Circles Around the Sun on their Colorado four stop tour, then the band hits the road to continue their tour from coast to coast. Tonal quality and rhythmic Dead elements weave themselves in and out of the pieces that Casal and his bandmates present and they are lost in a world of the 70’s. The eager and enthusiastic crowd, many whom have seen multiple shows along this tour already, go along for the ride with an ease and abandon.

Colorado based artist, Tyler Grant, opened the evening with his bluegrass folk band, Tyler Grant Trio. With banjo, bass and beards of plenty, these guys created an environment worthy of encircling a summertime bonfire in the Rocky Mountains. His new album, Earth and Wood, released in 2016, paints pictures of stories of babbling creeks, youth and love.
