On 1.11 of 2024 The Head & the Heart opened a 3-night residency in Aspen, Colorado. The evening began with an intricate acoustic set with Charity Rose Thielen, Jonathan Russell and Matt Gervais. Led by Russell’s gentle guitar strumming and Thielen’s somber violin, the spotlight focused on the trios’ intricate harmonies.
The soft opening set the tone for the night igniting an incredible connection with the audience. The talented trio translated the bands’ beloved hit songs altering them just enough to sound fresh; while simultaneously familiar.
The full band hit the Belly Up stage after the opening acoustic set. One of my favorite songs appeared early in their set list: “Another Story.” The sequence of these 8 words serve as a life mantra.

A crowd favorite was “Let’s Be Still” where the ethereal vocals of Thielen captivated everyone’s attention. “All We Ever Knew” was a powerful sing along. Gervais engaged the crowd all night with his positive energy.
In 2012 I saw the Head and the Heart for the first time in Milwaukee, WI at Turner Hall. Several performances later it is astonishing to witness their artistry and musical precision evolve.
The bands’ performance in snow-covered Aspen, Colorado was the first of a sold-out series of shows ending with a private event on night three. I talked to one guest who was waiting in line to enter the venue. She shared she was living the perfect day starting on skis on Ajax Mountain followed by après–ski ski at Ajax Tavern and the White House Tavern for dinner before jumping in line to see The Head and the Heart perform.
The Head and the Heart’s concert series was part of the annual Wintersköl – an annual “toast to winter,” which dates back to January in 1951 in Aspen. The four-day festival showcases on-mountain activities, snow sculptures, a soup contest, a craft beer festival, a torchlight descent, fireworks on the mountain and epic musicians.
The Head and the Heart’s 2024 tour season is off to a terrific start. In August they will appear on the Red Rocks stage again! I highly recommend you monitor their tour schedule and catch a show (or two) in 2024. The Head and the Heart appeared in the Cameron Crowe series Roadies, and their music has been featured in countless commercials, films and television shows.
