Multi-talented musician and performer Robert DeLong is known for his eclectic and rare approach to electronic music. Based in Los Angeles, CA DeLong blends various musical genres, such as indie pop, electronic, and dance, to create a unique and captivating sound. He’s recognized for his intense skill as a live performer, while using a wide array of instruments, MIDI controllers, and other various technology on stage, creating a one-man band experience. Honing in on his skills, Delong secured his spot in the music scene with the hit single Global Concepts back in 2012. We were lucky enough to see his distinct style as he played it live, amazingly synchronizing everything individually until the entire track was in motion. His ability to seamlessly merge electronic elements with live instrumentation sets him apart in the world of electronic music.

Appealing to fans of various musical styles, DeLong is a versatile artist who continually pushes the boundaries of electronic music, offering a fresh and exciting take on the genre. I’d believe it’s fair to say he lost his mind but even better yet, found his way back through the sounds of music. Even though their styles stand apart from one another, Delong did a great job opening the night up for the Arkells.

The Arkells immediately took advantage of the trippiness that Meow Wolf had to offer with their world-renowned artwork throughout the building and matched it with colorful rays and a unique stage set-up featuring stained glass windows that changed with each scene. See the setlist below.

The band’s beginning traces back to the campus of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario where their group of friends shared a passion for music and decided to dream big. “Arkells“, was inspired by Arkell Street in the Westdale neighborhood of Hamilton, which held a special significance for the group. Founded in 2006, the band started as a humble project, playing small local gigs and gaining experience while honing their sound. Their early days were filled with unwavering determination to make their mark in the Canadian music scene. Gradually, Arkells began to develop a reputation for their high-energy live performances, which in return built them a loyal and growing fan base. They started to gain recognition with their debut album, Jackson Square, released in 2008, which featured tracks like Oh, the Boss Is Coming! and Pullin’ Punches. Led by lead singer Max Kerman, Arkells have released several others including Michigan Left (2011), High Noon (2014), and Rally Cry (2018).

From their modest beginnings as college friends playing in local bars to their ascent as one of Canada’s most prominent rock bands. Over the years, they’ve continued to evolve and create music that resonates with a diverse audience, while staying true to their roots in Hamilton, a city that remains close to their hearts. Arkells’ story is a testament to the power of persistence and passion, demonstrating that a group of friends with a shared love for music can achieve their dreams through passionate dedication and enthusiasm.
