Hailing from Austin, Texas, Reckless Kelly had brothers Willy (vocals/guitar) and Cody Braun (vocals/fiddle/mandolin/harmonica) leading the band through a set of rocking tunes that turned Loveland’s Summer Shindig into complete shambles. Yoga on The Plaza will never be the same. It was recently announced by Reckless Kelly that they are planning on retiring from the road in 2025 and the overflowing Loveland crowd appreciated the hardest-working band of imminent retirees in the country.
Along with the Braun brothers, Reckless Kelly had Jeff Queen on guitars, Jay Nazz on drums, and Joe Miller on bass guitar. Reckless Kelly powered through songs that included Radio, Ragged as the Road, Denver, Nobody’s Girl, Wicked Twisted Road, Seven Nights in Eire, Look at That, and Crazy Eddie’s Last Hurrah, among others. Reckless Kelly also shared a tribute to Tom Petty and played Runnin’ Down a Dream. The night was a dream. The rain started right as the opening band started and stopped just as RK was ready to take the stage.

Sugar Britches, out of Fort Collins, started the show with a rowdy mix of honky-tonk sounds and cagey lyrics that perk your ears and your brain. With songs such as King of Downtown, Virginia Honey, and $3 Moonshine, the band had the early arrivers dancing across the downtown Loveland plaza. Sugar Britches played a healthy sum of songs from their 2022 release, No One Cares That It’s Your Birthday and Don’t Make Her a Mix Tape Yet You Idiot from 2018.
Other songs included The Worst, Who’s Your God, Polyamory, Bury My Head, and Quino Cowboy. See the video below and check the photos for the full setlist.
Sugar Britches featured Brian Johanson on lead vocals and guitar, Lance Ruby on lead electric guitar, Ansel Foxley on Dobro, and Cameron Collums on upright bass.
