Hailing from Ontario, these Canadians flew south and passed through Denver’s Globe Hall on March 22 as part of the American leg of tour. On the heels of their 2017’s album “Young Beauties and Fools”, the reason for the success is undoubtedly clear once these guys hit the stage. Performing songs from the Juno-nominated album, these crooners rocked hard and loved every minute of it.
If your only experience of The Glorious Sons is the single “Everything is Alright,” you would be simplifying what these guys can actually do. Don’t assume the rest of the set is a low-key singer/songwriter/folky experience, the energy and danceability of this record is infectious.
Lead singer Brett Emmons delivers a heartbreakingly raw emotion on every single song, the journey of a man that has been through the ups and downs of life and love, and everything in between. “Come Down”, “My Poor Heart”, and “Josie” are just a few of the 10 solid songs that make up the new record, and the band has found a solid foot to stand on. The album is a “story of a 24-year-old kid,” singer Brett Emmons describes of what this album means to the Sons, and him personally. “They’re simple songs about alcoholism and the mostly autobiographical story of my life. The whole thing is derived from the thoughts, actions and feelings of a kid who doesn’t really know himself and the consequences of those actions.”
Regardless of the consequences, The Glorious Sons are seeing massive success and are forging a spot on the map of new-classic rock and roll bands. Keep an eye out for these guys, if you haven’t heard “Young Beauties and Fools” yet, this album will quickly become one that is on repeat and stuck in your head.
