The Damn Quails returned to Denver on Thursday night as part of their Ain’t From Here Tour. They may embrace their out-of-town attitude, but their Folk-Country-Rock music brought listeners together at Mercury Cafe.
Lead-man, not Iceman, Bryon White led The Damn Quails as Caleb supported on bass, Aaron on drums, and Ian on keys as they shared songs and stories of their Oklahoma upbringing. The Monsters were Out of the Birdcage as they filled the ballroom with magical energy from the Highest Shelf and Red Dirt songs that included California Open Invitation with a postcard and a letter and brand new tattoos of Tom Skinner and Mike McClure, Joe Baxter’s Oklahoma Sunset, and Tom Skinner’s That’s Where We Belong. He was a Light of this World. Other songs included Everything is Fine, Another Story, Midnight Swagger, Idaho, Punxatawney Rambler, Mary, Junkies Lament, Rattlesnakes (Through the Cotton), Peace in the Valley, Dollars, Harm’s Way, and Fool’s Gold.
