Ladies and Gentlemen, 2023 marking the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. Gov’t Mule joined in on the celebration of the legendary album and brought back Dark Side of the Mule for a summer’s tour. We had yet another amazing performance at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheater hosted by one of Denver’s favorite bands Gov’t Mule! Having not played at Red Rock’s since 2019, they brought everything they had and performed beautiful two sets. Starting with their own hits mixed in with a few of their new songs that were recently released, followed up by their famous Pink Floyd “Dark Side of the Mule” cover. And you guested it, who else better to open the show other than Led Zeppelin’s very owner drummers son, Jason Bonham.

Jason Bonham is a British drummer and musician known for his creativity/leadership alongside other band projects such as his association with rock and roll legends Led Zeppelin. Born in Dudley, England he is the son of the late John Bonham, who was the drummer for the iconic rock band Led Zeppelin. Intrigued with learning, he began playing drums at a young age while being influenced by his father’s drumming style. Jason, played exceptionally well and received praise for his performance from an early age. In later years, Jason formed his own project called “Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening”, performing live tribute concerts to Led Zeppelin’s music, aiming to capture the energy as the original performances, while also acknowledging the unique position they held in rock history.

The Dark Side of the Mule Tour set flight on July 22nd in Atlantic City and will have a total of 18 stops taking them across the country. Luckily, Red Rock’s our backyard venue made the cut just about at the halfway mark. Following the mile city are cities such as Dallas, Atlanta, and Boston, before wrapping in Vienna, Va on Aug 20th.

Gov’t Mule is an American rock jam band that was founded in 1994. Initially formed in New York City, as a side project by Warren Haynes and Allen Woody, who were members of The Allman Brothers Band at the time. Gov’t Mule has taken their music and touring has taken them across the United States and around the world. Although the lineup has changed over the years, Warren Haynes has remained a constant presence in the band. They’ve gained a substantial following among fans of rock, blues, and jam band music that travel from all around to see their seamless live performances. They have released numerous albums and have a dedicated following that tags long both live and virtual thanks to Nugs.net. Their live performances often feature extended improvisational sections, showcasing their musical prowess and chemistry as a band.

Gov’t Mule is known for their impressionable music just as Pink Floyd once, or should I say, still is. “The Dark Side of the Moon” is one of the most iconic and influential albums in the history of rock music. Released in 1973, it’s a concept album known for its progressive sounds of the 70s, and exploration of topics such as life, death, and human experience. The album cover features a prism refracting light into a spectrum, which has become one of the most recognizable album covers in music history. Shout out to Mule’s designer for the awesome collaboration centerpiece that they had made for the final set of the evening. Who knows, this very well might be our final opportunity to see these sets performed live, follow along and view the links below to secure tickets to the last of these tour dates.
