I feel the need…. the need for a good time in Northglenn on Wednesday night. Northglenn Arts Summer Concert and Movie Night had Colorado’s own Narrow Gauge opening for Tom Cruise.
Great balls of fire, Narrow Gauge had ice water in their veins as they started the show with the sun shining down, but they could still see the growing crowd taking in the sounds near the Northglenn Rec Center. Narrow Gauge had Maverick Jim Greer on guitar and vocals, Iceman Gene Dowell on vocals, guitars, and mandolin, The Hammer Mike Ryan on drums, and Jester Pat Pruyn on bass and vocals.
Ranging from rock & roll to country, Narrow Gauge buzzed the tower with a little something for everyone. Starting the show with good advice, Take It Easy, listeners should abide, or they’d end up with the Folsom Prison Blues. Next up was a newer country song, Lonesome USA, then Play Something Country.
Narrow Gauge also turned and burned with Gimme Three Steps, Head Over Boots, Deeper Than the Holler, Beautiful Crazy, and Why Don’t We Just Dance.
They kept flying high with other songs that had the audience singing along with Red Dirt Road, Dance Her Home, Honky Tonk Women, and Running Down a Dream. There were more seat dancers than dancers in front of the stage, but Narrow Gauge kept everyone engaged with Waylon Jennings’ Lonesome, On’ry, and Mean, and Steve Earle’s Copperhead Road. When they performed In Color, it was a respectful tribute to all the military fighting to keep us all free. Other fancy flying tunes also included Fast As You, and All Night Long.
Narrow Gauge decided it was time for the big one, with their ending song, Sweet Child o’ Mine. What a wonderful night for great music in Northglenn. Next up was Top Gun.
