Arvada Center hosted two sensational singer/songwriters on Sunday night at the Arvada Center.

First up was Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket) out of Santa Barbara. Phillips’ songs included The Easy Ones and Leaving Old Town. The most recognized by the crowd was the Toad the Wet Sprocket’s All I Want. His set, just Phillips and his guitar, was way too short.
The crowd was into his music and performance and wanted more, but what they got was an incredible evening of Marc Cohn songs and stories. For more information on Glen Phillips, go to www.glenphillips.com.
Marc Cohn spoke about being from Cleveland and his musical history and influences. Cohn played a lot of songs off his first release, Marc Cohn. Those songs included Ghost Train, Dig Down Deep, Silver Thunderbird, 29 Ways, Perfect Love and of course, Walking In Memphis. It was cool to hear the story about Muriel playing the piano and how Walking In Memphis and his whole first album came to light after everything that happened and she told him to go home and write those songs.
We’re glad he did.
Cohn was accompanied by percussionist Joe Bonadio (who had been playing with Sting), and Glenn Patscha on keyboards, who has a history of working with Levon Helm and Sheryl Crow.
Taking a few requests from the listeners, including a couple in the crowd who shouted out for True Companion and got their wish on their 25th wedding anniversary; hearing their wedding song. Cohn obliged to a deluge of applause. Another request that he indulged was Walk Through The World.
Other songs in the set included Things Handed Down and Listening to Levon.
Cohn finished the encore and the evening with The Rainy Season. Then, noting that he and his band were going to be off for a few weeks, invited the entire audience to stick around after the show as he was in no big hurry to get back home for the layoff.
