“Scarlet Sails manages to tie in a wealth of tracks divided by several genres to create a succinct and strangely beautiful whole.” – Impose Magazine
Having demolished their Kickstarter goal with 197% funding and raising over $27,000 to put towards their debut full-length album, it’s evident Scarlet Sails have made an impact. The New York piano-based rock band will be self-releasing their record, Future From the Past, on April 10th but today fans get a first listen to the album exclusively via Consequence of Sound. Their lead single “Boy You’re Wrong” has been enthusiastically received and hailed as “exciting psychedelic 70s mash of driving distorted guitars and haunting vocals” [Lady Gunn] and“indescribably honest” [Impose Magazine].
Future From The Past is a very personal endeavor for Olya. The project shares the story of her journey to the US from Russia and the adventures, both good and bad, that she’s faced (see Psychology Today article for more). She shares, “It all comes together – New York’s melting pot of cultures, rhythms and tones, dreams that come true, fears that get in the way, the future that was destined to be, the past that defines the course, and the present that gets created on the way – all in the songs that I wrote throughout past 7 years that I lived and breathed here – played by a kick ass band and recorded at Atlantic Sound Studio in Brooklyn by Grammy-winning production team, Nic Hard and Diko Shoturma, and mastered by the legendary, Greg Calbi.”

Scarlet Sails are the creation of singer/songwriter Olya Viglione and her husband, Dresden Dolls drummer Brian Viglione – a career musician who has also worked with Violent Femmes and Nine Inch Nails. Joined by band members Mark Kohut (guitar) and Edward Goldson (bass – Jay-Z, Big Pun, P.Diddy), their sound rests in this perfectly balanced place of classic and modern rock, showcasing their signature style with subtle nods to iconic artists like Bowie, The Ramones, and Led Zepplin – they’ve been said to sound like, “If Queen and Alice Cooper were to remake Okay Computer.” Scarlet Sails will be bringing their Future From The Past album to life in an energetic and captivating live show – hitting road this year, with a short run this Spring and more dates to be added soon.
