GRAMMY award-winning musician Anna Wise (who was awarded the golden gramophone for her collaboration work on Kendrick Lamar‘s “These Walls”) will release her 2nd EP, The Feminine: Act II, this Friday, February 17th via Stem. Wise recently spoke with The New York Times about releasing her music through the rapidly growing company – Stem – as it helps her maintain “control and minimizing any disruption to creativity “. The Feminine Act: II is the follow up to the singer’s much acclaimed 2016 debut EP, The Feminine: Act I.Both projects have a spiritual core and production richness, coupled with lyrics that celebrate womanhood with a powerful feminist stance. Where The Feminine: Act I leaned more to showcasing carefully crafted pop elements, The Feminine Act: II boasts many tracks that have an airy, soulful R&B groove. The EP’s lead single, and Wise’s self-directed music video, for “Coconuts” dropped earlier this month – PRESS HERE to watch the video. In support of the project, Wise is in the midst of her residency at Brooklyn’s C’Mon Everybody with additional U.S. tour dates announced. All tour dates listed below.
Praise for “Coconuts” + The Feminine: Act II “The Feminine: Act I, which offered a quick glimpse into the ups and downs of womanhood. With her forthcoming EP, The Feminine: Act II, Wise treads a similar road, presenting a lucid set of dream-pop and R&B designed to uplift the masses.” –
NPR
“She’s [Wise] becoming a main-stage attraction in her own right. ‘Coconuts,’ the first single from her upcoming album The Feminine: Act II, retains the pop/R&B elements of her previous album, The Feminine: Act I, it also builds upon them with laid-back jazz undertones.” – Pitchfork
“The aptly named The Feminine: Act II, Wise leans into spindly R&B and airy jazz, like on lead single ‘Coconuts.'”-
Stereogum “The visuals synchronizes perfectly with the rising synths and warm brass of the song [‘Coconuts’] itself, reflecting the harmony experienced on set between the women.” – Consequence of Sound
“The self-directed video synchronizes perfectly with the rising synths and warm brass of the song itself, and sees Wise joined by several other women for an interpretative dance routine. Instantly iconic.” –
