Lemuria performed a high energy set at Marquis Theater last night in LoDo to an excited and vocal crowd. Currently on the Get Better 10 Year Anniversary Tour, they are making stops nationwide to celebrate a decade since the release of their first full length album. They are playing the album Get Better in its entirety on this tour, while capping off the evening with favorites from their later albums and adding some new love songs for good measure. Lemuria came to the scene as the quintessential indie band in 2008; offering calculated and complicated guitar riffs, heavy bass lines with a hi snare accompaniment, this band has a fullness with no fluff.
The uptempo collection of songs from Get Better offer straight forward lyric simplicity like “I want your hands in my hair/pulling your face closer” from the opening track Pants while including complex feelings of loss and heartache in the song Dog, “Like a goddamn dog with its tail between its legs/ ashamed of trying to butter up your obituary/ At least I can say I tried with you.” Sometimes sweet while being brutally honest, their lyrics in addition to musicianship and energy is what makes this band not only likeable but relatable.
Lemuria is on tour through February with Philadelphia raucous and mighty trio Cayetana and solo punk guitarist and vocalist Mikey Erg. Mile High Feedback gives this show the nod as a band to catch up with and definitely a need to catch live!
